To evaluate the safety and efficacy of Prednisolone(Pd) withdrawal followed by recompbinant alpha-Interferon therapy, seventeen patients were given a single daily subcutaneous injection of α-Interferon at a dose of 3×10E6 U/day for first weeksd
and
three times weekly for next 15 weeks after Pd tappered over 6 weeks.
@ES The result were as follows:
@EN 1) Serum alanine aminotransferase(ALT0 & aspartate aminotransferasfe(AST) were decreased significant from 6 months and 12 after therapy, respectively(P<0.01) though transient increament of just after therapy.
2) During follow up period, loss of HBeAg was found in 10 cases(58.8%). Of these, seroconversion (Anti-HBe) of HBeAg was found in 9 cases(52.9%).
3) During administration of Interferon, DNA polymerase activities were declined significantly and negative conversion in 9 cases(60.7%).
4) Fever, chill and myalgia were noted in 17(10%), 15(88.2%), and 12(70.6%) cases, respectively. Headache, anorexia, nausea and vomiting were noted in few cases.
5) There was no significant clinical, hematologic, biochemical changes after interferon αtherapy.
This study shows that Prednisolone withdrawal followed by recombinant alpha interferon 2b therapy may be safe and effective in decrease the level of serum DNA polymerase, transaminase activity, loss of HBe Ag and less adverse effect of clinical
and
hematologic examination in patient with Chronic active hepatitis type B.
